Gold River, BC - Gateway to Historic Nootka Sound

	WELCOME TO GOLD RIVER The Village of Gold River is a resource based community, developed by the Tahsis Company Ltd. in the 1960's and for more than forty years Gold River has been the "Gateway to Historic Nootka Sound". Rich in history and resources, Nootka Sound enjoys a reputation as a premier fishing destination. Gold River takes its name from Rio del Oro, explored in the late 1780's by Spaniards searching for gold.
We are a small community of 1,350, hidden in the heart of Vancouver Island. The village nestles on the western edge of Strathcona Park, British Columbia’s oldest, provincial park. It is also the only road access to Nootka Sound and Yuquot, ancestral home of the Mowachaht people and site of first contact by Europeans in the late 1700's. Surrounded by steep, tree-clad mountains, nourished by cold, clear rivers and lakes teeming with fish, we bask in the temperate west coast climate and live the wilderness junkie’s dream.
