Our
Water Supply
The Village is
served by three drilled artesian wells located in Heber
Field. A gravity feed system operates from a 500,000
gallon reserve located on the north side of the Gold River
Highway (Hwy #28).
A 12 inch water main along Muchalat Drive connects the
distribution system to the existing reservoir.
This ground
water is of very high quality and was ranked as the best
spring water in North America in 1996.
Our
Storm Sewers
The Gold River
storm sewer system links the complete developed portion of the
village. A network of storm sewer lines direct outfall
to several sites along the Heber and Gold Rivers where it
eventually flows into Muchalat Inlet. Other surface
run-off finds its way into the two rivers directly or is channelled
into the existing storm sewer lines.
The existing
water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer facilities, planned for
a population of 5,000, are of sufficient capacity for the
medium term growth of the community.
Fun
Fact:
The
village maintains 14.3 kilometres of
storm sewers
Water
Restrictions The
Village restricts water use in the community pursuant to the
Water Regulation Bylaw and requests the cooperation of the
public in reducing the water demand on the municipal
system. Water
restrictions are in effect from May 1st to September
30th. ODD
# residents/businesses water on odd days. EVEN #
residents/businesses water on even days, during the hours
of 7-10 a.m. and 7-10 p.m. Burman
Court residents: High
side (house numbers 501-513) water ODD days - Low side (house
numbers 515-527) water EVEN days. Snow
Clearing In
December 2008 Council formally adopted the Snow
and Ice Control Policy. The purpose of this policy
is to establish an effective and efficient provision of snow
and ice control operations to allow the municipality to
function under normal winter weather conditions. The
Policy outlines the various operational procedures municipal
crews will undertake to remove snow from municipal streets and
sidewalks in an effective, efficient and safe
manner. Plowing
normally beings when approximately 10 centimeters (four
inches) of snow has fallen, or when lesser snowfall is causing
dangerous conditions. Weather conditions are often a factor in
the decision when to start plowing, as predicted heavy snow,
warming weather, rains or freezing may delay or hasten a
decision to begin plowing. The
Village's Street Snow Plowing Priorities:

Some
streets may not get done the same day depending on weather
conditions and crew availability, or hills may only be done
and streets left based on predicted weather
conditions.
On
street parking may be permitted on local streets during the
summer months however residents are requested to refrain from
parking on municipal streets during the winter season to allow
efficient snow clearing by municipal works crews. It
is an offence under the Street and Traffic Bylaw to stop or
park a vehicle on local streets that interferes with snow
clearing. Any vehicle in violation of the Street and
Traffic Bylaw is subject to a ticket being issued and/or the
vehicle being towed at the owner's expense. Your
cooperation is requested and appreciated. |
Garbage
Collection Residential
garbage pick up is Wednesday mornings. Residents are
requested to place cans at the curb by 7:30 a.m. on the day of
garbage pickup to ensure pickup. Residential
properties are limited to two (2) cans for pick up on
collection day not to exceed 40 lb. (18 kg) maximum
weight. These weight restrictions are in place to
minimize the possibilities of muscle strain or injury to the
crew. Please refrain from overfilling garbage cans and
exceeding the weight permitted under the bylaw. Garbage
must be placed in garbage cans. Crews will not pick up
garbage in plastic bags at the curb. Residents
are requested to refrain from putting garbage cans out by the
curb before residential garbage pick up day.
Residents can also take their garbage to the drop off depot
located at the Public Works Yard on Hilke Road. The drop
off depot is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to
2:45 p.m. Recycling
Information Recycling
bins are located at the Payless parking lot, Community Centre
(Arena) parking lot and the Drop Off Depot at the Public Works
Yard. The Payless and Arena recycling bins accept
cardboard and boxboard, newspaper, magazines and paper bags,
glass and aluminum cans. The Public Works Drop Off
Depot bins also include scrap metal, vehicle batteries, paint
and associated product and grass, yard and garden clippings
(up to 8" in diameter). Free
disposal of grass, leaves, pine needles/cones, sticks and
branches up to 8" in diameter are accepted at the Drop
Off Depot when placed in designated bins. Residents are
requested to refrain from backyard burning (we have a no-burn
bylaw) and from disposing of garden/yard pruning in the
bush. Disposing
of garden and yard prunings in the bush will only increase the
forest fire hazard as dry brush acts as fuel for forest
fires.
