                                                            Searching for Old Friends               

  I am trying to locate L/Wrens Mary Hunter and Babs Harris/Harrison.  Both were writers at HMS Tamar in 72/7.  Mary came from Stranrar and Babs from Preston.  Mary was drafted to Faslane where I lost contact.  No idea where Babs was posted.  I was in the 1st Kings Regt. at Stanley Fort but had a wonderful time at the parties in the Penthouse, Bonham Towers and the Circla Club at Tamar. MAILER(Sam or Sailor) Hugh. Served in Malta between 1967 and 1971 aboard HMS Galatea (Black Pig) Diomede amd ashore at Navsouth and St. Angelo.  Woull like to make contact with any of the Wrens we worked and played with during those great times.  Especially Pam Gray, (lived near Yeovil) Katie Hannah, Val Brown or any of the others from Whitehall Mansions at those times. McLEOD David. Ex PO RP1 instructor at HMS Harrier- Dale Pembs.  I'm also one of the Ganges shower - my wife Liz and I run the Ganges Cardiff Friday While - last weekend October.(see Ganges website-reunions) We are getting a lot of girls attached to the Ganges Association and are always looking for more (who isn't??)  In case anyone is interested we have L/Wren Jean Smith RP2 and L/Wren Joan Faulkner RP2 both stalwarts of Dryad/Harrier & Fort Purbrook days.  I have often thought about a girl called Nan Weekes and also Gillian Colby. PAUL LOSEBY. I joined the Royal Marines in 1966 and whilst at the RM Deal Depot in Kent, I met and fell in love with a Wren  Officer's steward DENISE WEBBER from Minehead, Somerset.  We became engaged but I wanted to become an officer and it wasn't felt suitable, by senior officer's, that we shoul be together.  So, without our consent, Denise was moved to HMS Raleigh in Pltymouth and I was sent to Aden.  I would love to hear from her to find out how she has got on in life.  Mail to paul@loseby.co.uk

HEDLEY MURTON  I am sure that many of the lads, as we were, would love to know how our favourite wren from HMS Mercury, got on in life.  Her name was ANNA LEVERSON-GOWER, and she was a transport driver, beloved by all the communications branch for her practise of scrubbing her name off the wardroom dance list and then visiting the wet canteen.  A lovely lady and a "big sister" to all of us.  If someone was coming off watch and needed a ride to the nearest bus stop, Anna would prevail upon her assigned passenger, often the padre, to gain a seat in the tyransport.  As I said, a good, good friend.  Contact haidakip@waitrose.com

BURNS  N.J. (Robbie) Picnics on the Broadwalk.  Moonlight strolls back to Whitehall Mansions.  The "Silver Cross" in Whitehall.  It surely can't be almost 50 years since those carefree halcyon days!!! I have great memories of all the gorgeous  WRNS I worked and played with! Often wondered how everone fared. I would love to make contact with Janis Hogg with whom I served in Commcen Gibraltar in the 70's. HOLLIDAY Bill.  For my sins I am a former Royal who was recalled for duty  owing to the Suez crisis in 1956 and sent to Chatham to cook in the galley.  I became very friendly with two Ma Wrens.  One was a very good singer but the other one by the name of Harriet, nicknamed "Harry" (don't know any other names) came from the North East of England, used to come into the galley and have a cuppa with me, and listen to Army Forces Network country music.  It would be nice to meet up with such a lovely friend again. MIKE CORBIN.  I have been trying to make contact with a Wren I was stationed with at HMS Vernon, but, I cannot remember her surname.  Her name was Jane and she came from Liverpool.  We served at Vernon in 1964/65 before I went across to HMS Dolphin to do my submarine training.  Unfortunately in those days, as soon as you finished training  you were sent to sea, and in my case, to the Far East on the A boat HMS Andrew.  By the time I got back I had lost touch with her.  At the time that I knew her she had a friend called Ann, also a Wren who lived in Weymouth who was going out with an RPO from HMS Vernon, and we used to go out together. My family lived in Northampton at the time and Jane and I visited on long weekend leaves.  It would be really nice to know how she is and what she has been doing  over the last 35 years  E-mail    mike@corbin35.fsnet.co.uk         .
