Building a poleframe house

In the spring of 1998, after a dozen years of dreaming and planning, I started building our home - a poleframe house. I designed it to
 reflect my wife's culture - we live on the the Gwa'sala -'Nakwaxda'xw Nations' reserve at Tsulquate, close by Port Hardy. Thus it is
loosely based on a traditional westcoast first nation "bighouse". After getting help with erecting the poles I settled in to a pattern of working
solo - I didn't want any workers standing around while I scratched my head and figured out what I wanted to do next. Needless to say
the project took considerably longer to complete than I would have ever guessed ... we didn't move in until the summer of  2003! And there
are still a number of finishing details to take care of...
